Republican Stadium was a multipurpose stadium from Republic of Moldova, opened in 1952. Over time, on the Republican stadium, the clubs Zimbru and Dacia Chisinau, but also the national Moldova’s football team, played the home matches. The Republican Stadium has hosted also 17 finals of the Moldova’s Cup and 2 finals of the Federation’s Cup of Football USSR. In 2007 the Republican Stadium was demolished because it didn’t meet the FIFA and UEFA’s criteria for the conduct of the international matches, planning to build in its place another modern and performant stadium.
HISTORIC
In October 2006 the Government Tarlev II approved a decision regarding the reconstruction of the “Republican Stadium” and the actions that were to be made by the central and local authorities for this purpose. In March 2007, it was requested from the Municipality of Chisinau the release a demolish authorization for nine buildings situated on the territory of the Republican Stadium, which were the private property of some individuals and legal entities. But the Municipality of Chisinau released the authorization to dissolute the stands of the Republican Stadium complex. The final decision on the organization and expedite demolition activities of the Republican Stadium was taken at a Government working session, of 11 June 2007.
The Republican Stadium was demolished in summer 2007 at the initiative of then Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev. Vasile Tarlev in person boarded in a tractor and demonstrative demolished an impromptu wall. Then Tarlev said that in the place of the stadium will be built a modern arena with 20000 seats, a huge parking lot and a hotel.
The reconstruction works of the Republican Stadium have never started. According to estimates, the construction of a new sports complex would cost about 100 million euros.
In October 2010, the Minister of Youth and Sports from then, Ion Ceban, said that the Republican stadium will be rebuilt under a public-private partnership, because the Government stand alone can not cover the cost of millions euros to renovate the arena. Among the potential donors mentioned then was the European Athletics Federation.
Meanwhile, had emerged rumors that on the place of the stadium could be exalted a housing district or an embassy. The stadium’s director, Valeriu Sula, said in May 2011 that, since the 2009, US Embassy representatives visited the stadium showing interest in building a new headquarters for the US diplomatic mission in Republic of Moldova. The President of the National Olympic Committee, Nicolae Juravski declared then about it: “It is a good idea. The land from Tighina Street would be more suitable for an embassy, and then we will get money to build a new stadium. ”
In 2013, former Minister of Agriculture, Valeriu Cosarciuc proposed that on the five hectares of land to be landscaped an agricultural market with 2,500 places for trade.
On 12 February 2014 Leanca approved a plan of action for 2014, which included the commencement of the construction of the Republican Stadium. Ministry of Regional Development and Construction was then appointed as the institution responsible for the implementation of this project.
On 30 January 2015 the Minister of Construction, Marcel Raducan said that “currently there are negotiations on initiating a public-private partnership”.
“The ministry was supported by the Government to initiate proceedings public partnership to build a republican stadium with a capacity of 25-30 thousand people. We have already started negotiations with three companies – one from Italy, another from Moldova and third from Ukraine. This year is decisive for the drawing up the project “.
According to an audit report of the Court of Auditors, the conditions in which is the Republican Stadium after demolition can lead to incurring some unjustified expenditure from the state. The land for buildings with an area of 5.2 ha is untidy and is covered with vegetation and waste. The land is registered as ownership of Moldova at the cadastral bodies and is reflected in the Ministry’s accounts with an amounting to 58.3 million.
